Football, Cricket, Baseball, Volleyball, Hockey, Tennis. These are not the only sports that are played worldwide. There are many other sports played worldwide, including some very strange sports.  Here we bring you 17 of the most weirdest and strangest sports around the world. Some of these even have their own world championships.

It is the most recent danger and one of the strangest sports that combines the excitement of an extreme outdoor activity with the satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt. It involves participants taking ironing boards to extreme and remote locations and then they iron pieces of clothing. You can iron it underwater, on a high mountain cliff, while parachuting or under the ice cover of a lake.

Quidditch is a contact sport and it is a mix of rugby, dodgeball, and tag. There are two teams with each team having 7 players and all the players play with brooms between their legs at all times. It may sound confusing but it is actually very exciting to watch and play as well. It is one of the weirdest sports I have ever heard about.

It is a very fascinating sport to watch and consists of participants rolling downhill inside a hamster exercise ball or a water ball. It is usually done on a gentle slope. The Guinness World Records of Longest distance travelled in a single roll is held by Steve Camp who travelled 570 metres (1,870 ft).

Originated in England and also known as octopush, it is one of the weirdest sports and a form of hockey played underwater in a pool. Here two teams compete to move a puck across the pool and into the opposite team’s goal by using a pusher.

In this strange sport, the contestants have to pull their ugliest faces possible and the ugliest face wins. It is a very common contest held in Britain and dates back to 1267. Tommy Mattinson (UK) has won world title 15 times in gurning.

In Cheese rolling, participants race down a hill behind a wheel of  Double Gloucester Cheese. It is an annual event held at Cooper’s Hill and thus is also known as Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake and is one of the strangest sports around the world..

This strange sport consists of two opponents locking toes and try to pin each other’s foot down to win. The first World Toe Wrestling Championship was held on 1976 at Derbyshire, UK.

One of the strangest sports around the world and also known as  worm grunting and worm fiddling, here participants have to attract worms from the ground using a variety of methods like vibrating the soil, beer sprinkling and tea sprinkling and acupuncture.

Originated in Finland, male competitors have to race while carrying their female and cross obstacles in their path. Several types of carry can be practised-piggyback, fireman’s carry (over the shoulder), or Estonian-style (the wife hangs upside-down with her legs around the husband’s shoulders, holding onto his waist).

This is an endurance test and one of the strangest sports I have ever heard of. Here live ferrets are trapped in the trousers of the participant. It is a very popular stunt among coal miners in Yorkshire, England. The one who keeps the ferrets longest in his trousers wins.

In this sport, participants  have to pop a cherry in their mouth, and spit a pit the maximum distance they can. The longest spit of a cherry stone in any competition is 28.51 m (93 ft 6.5 in) by Brian Krause (USA) at the International Cherry Pit-Spitting Championship at Eau Claire, Michigan, USA in 2004. It surely is one fun sport to watch.

It consists of two traditional sports, Chess and Boxing. There are alternative rounds of Chess and Boxing. It is extremely popular in Germany, India, Great Britain and Russia. In this sport, the participants need to have brain as well as brawn.

Originated in Switzerland, this weird sport consists of the batting team hitting the Nouss (a kind of disk or puck) as far as possible into the opponent’s area. The defending team needs to stop the approaching Nouss as soon as possible by using a shingle or catch board.

It is a ball game between 2 teams and it combines elements of volleyball, football and gymnastics with music. Here the ball can be kept in the air and can be hit with any part of the body and also the ball can be hit up to maximum eight times by one team before it goes over the net. This is again one of the strangest sports I have ever heard of.

It actually means the art of moving from one place to another in such a way that the obstacles in the path are used to incresae the efficiency of the participant. It is actually a training discipline and includes running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, jumping, rolling, quadrupedal movement, and other movements as deemed most suitable for the situation.

It is an annual boat race held in Darwin and is one of the strangest sports. But the boats can be made by using empty beer cans, soft drink (soda) cans and soft drink bottle. A lot of boats fall apart and this is part of the entertainment as well.It sure is a fun sport to watch. This event was started by Darwin businessmen, Lutz Frankenfeld and Paul Rice-Chapman in 1974.

17. Bo-Taoshi

It was originally a training exercise for the Japanese military. It consists of two teams having 150 individuals each. Each team has 75 attackers and 75 defensers. To won, the team has to lower the opponent team’s pole to a thirty-degree angle which was perpendicular in the beginning. It is also played in schools on sport’s days in Japan. It does have a weird name, though.
