Hello Everyone! Northeast India can be well described as another heaven on earth. North East India is famous mostly for its flora and fauna as well as for its unique and diverse culture. It comprises of the Seven Sister States (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura), and the Himalayan state of Sikkim. There are many people in India who do not know even the names of all the states in Northeast. Arunachal Pradesh Governor PB Acharya said that Indians know more about the US than the Northeast. 1. Biggest River Island In The World

Mājuli is recognised as the biggest river island in the world situated in the Brahmaputra River, Assam, India and also 1st island district of the country.

2. Smallest River Island In The World

Umananda Island is considered the world’s smallest river island situated in the midst of river Brahmaputra flowing through the city of Guwahati in Assam. It is also home to Golden Langur, one of the most endangered species of India.

3. 220 Languages Being Spoken

Around 220 languages are spoken in the states of the Northeast India including Bengali and Assamese.

4. Cleanest Village In Asia

Famous for its cleanliness and picturesque natural beauty, Mawlynnong was awarded the prestigious tag of ‘Cleanest Village in Asia’ in 2003 by Discover India Magazine.

5. Wettest Place On Earth

Mawsynram is reportedly the wettest place on Earth According to the Guinness Book of World Records. It is located in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya state in north-eastern India.

6. Among The Most Literate States In India.

According to the Census 2011, Mizoram is ranked third with a literacy rate of 91.58 per cent while Tripura is ranked fourth with a healthy literacy rate of 87.75 per cent.

7. First Oil Well And Oil Refinery Of The Asia

Digboi, also known as the ‘Oil City of Assam’ is where the first oil well in Asia was drilled. Digboi has the oldest oil well in operation.

Legend has it that it were the British who first noticed the oil on the feet of the elephants returning from the forest. The British asked the laborers to dig for the oil by saying ‘Dig Boy, Dig,’ and that is how the name DigBoi came about.

8. Third Highest Mountain In The World

9. Largest Man-Made Lake In The Country

Joysagar Tank is said to be the biggest man-made lake in the country, is located near the present town of Sivasagar. This lake was built by Swargadeo Rudra Singha in honour of his mother, Joymoti.

10. Dowry Free Zone

Entire Northeast India be it Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura or Arunachal Pradesh do not practice the dowry system.

Sualkuchi, located in Assam is renowned for its production of the famous Muga silk which is not produced anywhere else in the world. Known as the “Manchester of Assam”, it is also famous for its Pat silk, Eri silk and Endi cloth.

14. Beautiful Dance Forms

Northeast India is home to many beautiful dance forms including Manipuri and Sattriya, which are major classical Indian dance forms and also many folk dances such as Bihu of Assam, Cheraw of Mizoram, Hojagiri of Tripura and Singhi Chham of Tripura.

15. The Only Floating Park In The World

The Keibul Lamjao National Park is the only floating park in the world, located in the state of Manipur. It has an area of 40 km² (15.4 sq mi) and is an integral part of Loktak Lake.

The national park has many floating decomposed plant materials. It is also the only home to the endangered Manipur Eld’s deer or brow-antlered deer listed as an endangered species by IUCN.
